Synthetic Dreadlocks

  1. How can you install synthetic dreadlocks?
You can install them by braiding them in to your hair. It’s very easy to do yourself, but you can also book an appointment for me to help you with it.
  2. How long does it take to install?
This varies per person. If you have long hair it can take longer, but usually I can install a full set in 2 to 4 hours and a partial set in a 1,5 to 2 hours. If you choose to do it yourself: It can take a long time, but take your time and don’t worry to much. You get better every braid.
  3. Can I wash my hair with the dreadlocks in?
Absolutely. I would recommend to wash them once a week. You can wash them in two ways: 1: wash it like you wash your own hair with your regular shampoo, no conditioner. 2. only wash and clean your scalp with shampoo.

  5. How long will my dreadlocks last?
A set of synthetic dreadlock can last you a very long time, because you can re-use them until you feel they are used up. You can refresh them in the washing machine and treat them with steam to seal them for a smooth dread. They can last years, especially if you take good care of them. A set can be worn for 6 to 8 weeks at a time, sometimes even longer. It’s up to your personal preferance.
  6. How do I maintain my dreadlocks? Wash the dreadlocks in the washing machine for that extra clean feeling and they are ready to install again and again. If your set has loose ends, you can brush and restyle them once a week with a flat iron to keep the ends soft and shiny.

Yes, dreadlocks can be removed any time you want. Break or remove the rubber band and you can loosen the braid that the dreadlocks are attached to.

Permanent human hair dreadlocks

  1. How are dreadlocks made? Dreadlocks can be made in different ways, including the “Twist and Rip”, “Backcombing” or “Freeform” method. I use a combination of backcombing and a crochet needle to make the dreadlocks nice and healthy.
  2. How long does it take to install?
This varies per person and per hair type, desired size of the dreadlocks and the chosen method. In general making a full head of dreads takes between 6 and 12 hours. A partial set can be done in about 2 – 3 hours.
  3. How much does it cost?
This depends on the number of dreadlocks, the length of the hair and the hair type. For more information about the prices, click here. Prices can vary, so please send a message if you want more information.
  4. Can I wash my hair with dreadlocks? Yes, dreadlocks need to be washed regularly to remove dirt and oils. You can do this with your normal shampoo. I do not recommend conditioner in the beginning (the first 6 months). There are special shampoos available that are suitable for cleaning dreadlocks, but this is not strictly necessary. Your regular shampoo will be fine in most cases. Try to avoid sleeping with wet dreadlocks.
  5. How do I maintain my dreadlocks? Maintenance can be as difficult as you make it. A healthy maintenance routine involves regular washing (once a week), separation the roots, clockwise (root) rubbing and palm roling. Crocheting in loose hairs can help with the frizz, but can be a bit tricky to do, especially on the root area. You can do this yourself or have a professional, friends or family maintain it for you. I recommend you maintain them atleast 4 times per year, just to make sure all the dreadlocks grow healthy without damage.
  6. Can I remove my dreadlocks if I want to?
Yes, dreadlocks can be removed, but the process can take time and patience. You can carefully comb the dreadlocks out or, if you do not feel like it, cut them off or shave them.
  7. Are there any risks associated with getting dreadlocks?
With properly installed and maintained dreadlocks the risks are generally minimal. It is possible that someone may experience scalp irritation or more dandruff and this can be very annoying. I would also not recommend permanent dreadlocks on people with very thin, balding or damaged hair. It is good to consider whether permanent dreadlocks are the right choice for you if you suffer from this. Temporary dreadlocks could in that case be a healthier choice.
  8. Does it hurt to have dreadlocks applied?
The process can involve some pulling and tugging, but it should not be painful. A little discomfort for a few days after installation is normal.
  9. Can I swim with dreadlocks? Absolutely! It is important to rinse and condition them well after swimming in chlorinated or salt water. Avoid sleeping with wet dreadlocks.
  10. How often should I touch up my dreads? It depends on how fast your hair grows and how tight your dreads are. Some people need a touch-up every few months, others can wait longer.
  11. Can I get dreads with short hair? Absolutely! You can even get dreads with short hair and you can even lengthen them! It is important that you have at least 20 cm long hair to be able to do this.
  12. Can people with all hair types get dreadlocks? Yes, dreadlocks are suitable for all hair types, from straight to curly.
  13. Can I work or play sports with dreadlocks? Absolutely! Dreads should not get in the way of your daily activities. When playing sports intensively, it is important that the dreadlocks and scalp are washed regularly and given a good chance to dry.
  14. Can I make my own dreads or should a professional do it? Both are possible. Some people successfully make their own dreads, but others choose a professional for a neater look.
  15. How do I prevent my dreads from becoming frizzy? Unfortunately, you cannot completely stop this. Regular maintenance does however reduce this.
